Unfortunately, the public transport is so weak and inadequate when compared the other Balkan countries. Especially, during the summer season, it’s a bit easier to find public transport vehicles to travel from any city to other. For travelling, If you don’t want to rent a car, you can prefer taxi. But there is no common taxi tariff in Montenegro. If you visit Montenegro for the first time, you should ask for opening the taximeter.
Podgorica has the most developed public transport system in Montenegro. You can find regular bus lines for different regions of the city. But, the buses are so old and neglected. So, taxi transportations play an important role in Podgorica. The country has no metro lines. So, the most used transportation method is bus transportation. Railway transportation is developed in Montenegro. Belgrad – Bar is the most used railway line of the country and it has station in Podgorica.
Especially, public transportation is so important for tourism centers like Kotor and Budva. You can find direct bus lines from these cities to Podgorica every hour. Also, the country has bus lines to the neighborhood countries like Dubrovnik-Skopje-Sarajevo.
