The Old Bar, or more commonly known as the Antivari, while in Latin we also call it the Antibarium, is situated in the hills of Rumia Mountain, protected by the heights of Londusha Hill, overlooking the Bar Bay. The Old Bar is a real gem for those who love history.

Its streets represent guides throughout the centuries, beginning with the Greek colonies until the Middle Ages, then the rule of Venetians, the Turkish period, until the new era. The Old Bar is a cultural and tourist treasure in the true sense of the word. Through this museum of architecture you can walk the paths of true beauty. Small coffee shops with checkered tablecloths, Montenegrin coffee drinking on Mediterranean sofas, souvenir shops, Turkish bath, gunpowder, a clock tower and aqueduct built of stone in the 16th century in the Ottoman Empire which represents one of the most preserved  aqueduct in Montenegro as well as in former Yugoslavia. There are several remains of sacral objects from the Middle Ages in the city: the church of St. Theodore (later the church of St. George), the church of St. George, St. Nicholas Church (St. Mark’s Church), St. Nicholas Church Veneranda and the Church of St. Katherine.

At the heart of Old Bar is the Old Olive Tree, over 2000 years old and one of the oldest in Europe. It is protected by law in 1963. What is also interesting is that it still bears fruit and that many festivals related to the olive are being held.

In 1922 there was an “oil mill of the Marić brothers” in the Old Bar, where up to 20 tons of olive oil were processed daily and the famous bar oil was exported to America, France and Germany.

CG:

Nikole( crkva Sv. Marka), crkva Sv. Venerande I crkva Sv. Katarine.
