The Maritime Museum of Montenegro in Kotor was founded by ‘’Boka Marina’’ fraternity in 1880. The collection extended in time as to open its doors to the public in 1990.
Commemoratives of sailors, politicians, artists, shipbuilders, diplomats have been kept in this museum for years. The Museum is in the Baroque palace of noble Grgurina family. The Palace was restored completely according to needs of the museum.
There are remarkable objects in museum such as portraits of famous captains, old kitchen and sailing boat models, navigation devices and many valuables. Also there is a copy of a document known as the oldest travel document dating from 1168 in Kotor Maritime Museum.
Next to the entrance of palace there are two cannons as the symbol of constant battle of the Pirates and the Boka Fleet.
